A Guide To Estee Lauder Perfumes
It’s not surprising that a company that’s been around for over 7-decades would have such an impressive collection of fragrances. Frankly, we would be suspicious if they didn’t have more than 123+ fragrances available. We also know that a company with that long of a lineage has to have an interesting backstory too, so we decided to find out a little bit more about this company and share this information with all of our readers. Although you may not need to know the following information to enjoy the best Estee Lauder perfumes, you may find the information quite informative. We know we did.
The History Of Estee Lauder
Let’s begin our journeys together with a brief overview of Estee Lauder’s interesting history. This company owes its very existence to Estee Lauder herself. However, she wasn’t always known by the name Estee Lauder. In the beginning, she was born Josephine Esther Mentzer in Queens, New York, on July 1, 1904. She was the daughter of a Czech father, Max, and a Hungarian mother, Rose, and Estee was a variation on the nickname based on her middle name, Esty.
Her passion for cosmetic products would bloom when her Hungarian uncle came to live with the family. Her uncle knew how to concoct a variety of face creams, the knowledge that she would first apply as she created cosmetics in her kitchen, and then later in a makeshift laboratory that she had in a back stable.
It was during the late 20s that Estee would meet her future partner and spouse, Joseph Lauter. In 1930, they married, and the couple soon moved to Manhattan. Shortly after they made that big move, they changed their name to Lauder because that was Joseph’s father’s original surname, and his name had been mistakenly noted as Lauter when he had immigrated to the U.S from Austria.
Estee began to sell her makeup and skincare products to beauty salons, all while she demonstrated the products to women as they sat in their chairs and had their hair dried. This continued until 1946 when the success of her beauty products prompted her and her husband to officially launch the company, Estee Lauder. A year later, the company would receive its first big order for Saks Fifth Avenue.
From 1947 through the early 1950s, Estee Lauder enjoyed great financial growth, and then in 1953, the company decided to launch a fragrance line. This is when Estee created the perfume, Youth Dew, a combination of skin perfume and bath oil that was quite successful. Today, the company in a multimillion-dollar business and has 123+ fragrances in its collection.
