The History Of Gucci Perfumes
The brand name Gucci can be traced back to 19th century Europe. This is when Guccio Gucci was born in Florence, Italy in 1881 to a leather craftsman. He learned a lot about working with leather from his father, and he learned the value of hard work as an elevator operator when he traveled to London to work at the Savoy Hotel. He would combine those two traits when he opened his first shop in Florence in 1921. It was a shop dedicated to making and selling saddlery and luggage, and it enjoyed enough success for him to open up a larger shop in Lungarno Guicciardini in 1937. He became even more successful, eventually opening another shop the next year in Rome. His son Rodolfo would open a shop in Milan, and in 1953 they would open a shop in Manhattan. Unfortunately, that was also the year that Guccio passed away and passed his business on to his sons.
The company operated for quite a few years selling leather goods, ready-to-wear clothing, jewelry, watches, and even cosmetics. What they didn’t sell, however, was perfumes or colognes. That would remain the case for many years to come until Gucci decided that they should start selling fragrances to their clientele. In 1974, they released their first fragrance, Gucci No.1, and the rest is history. After that, they would go on to release some of the most iconic fragrances on the market including extremely desirable fragrances such as Envy, Envy For Men, Rush, Gucci Pour Homme, and Gucci By Gucci.
Nowadays, Gucci has 90+ fragrances that are made in collaboration with some of the best perfumers in the world. Some of the fragrance professionals that have worked on their products over the last 46-years include Karine Dubreuil, Lorenzo Villoresi, Dominique Ropion, Michel Almairac, Alberto Morillas, Daniela Andrier, Jacques Huclier, Guy Robert, and Aurelien Guichard.
