Terre d’hermes one of the Best Fragrances ever? Let’s Find Out
Terre D’Hermes by Hermes for Men was launched in the year 2006 by the famous designer house Hermes. It comes with an accompaniment fragrance of a light and strong smell.
Terre D’Hermes comes in a very nice and heavy bottle. The cap is innovative and twists down to reveal the sprayer. The quality of the bottle is perfectly in line with the juice that is found within it. This is a very nice earthy fragrance with a well blended mix of citrus and woods. To me, the opening is a bright fresh orange, which slowly includes a hint of grapefruit. Throughout the drydown you get the nice citrus and then the earthy notes join in. It is somewhat linear, yet awesome fragrance.
Terre D’Hermes also does well with projection and longevity. For me, it really does well and lasts throughout the day. Even during the colder days when most fragrances fail, this one keeps on projecting. Now, this isn’t in the same league as Pure Malt with projection but it does do well. In the warmer months, you can get away with one, maybe two sprays. During the fall/winter, I usually go with 3 to 4 sprays. That leads to what season this fits, and for me, I think it can be worn year-round. This is earthy enough to be good in the fall and even winter. Yet the citrus makes it a great fragrance for spring and summer. I find this to be a very versatile scent.
To me, this fragrance is rather mature and lacks the real appeal for younger women. I think this is best worn by the 25+ crowd, however, if you’re younger and enjoy it I’d say wear it. I however doubt that you’re going to be getting that many compliments from women younger then mid 20′s.
Terre D’Hermes = BUY
If you fit into the 23+ crowd and looking for an extremely well made fragrance then this is a perfect buy.
Here are some features of this men’s cologne for some exclusive insights about the product for aspiring buyers:
Highlights of the product:
- Fragrance: It is entwined with ingredients ranging from Benzoin, Mineral Note, Vetiver, Geranium, Atlas, Cedar, Bay Rose, Pepper, Grapefruit, and Patchouli.
- Duration: A single spray of this cologne could last a whole day depending on the coverage of the area and never too overpowering. The scent gradually parches down to a very pleasing earthy, timbered tang, accompanied with a tinge of patchouli, and light smoky and citrus smell.
- The scent elevates in contact with water: A striking feature of this cologne is that the scent of this cologne hoists up if applied on a damp body and is best if used during the day.
Occasion:
It is for men who are interesting and outgoing. You can wear it from boardrooms, nightclubs, and jungle safaris to an astounding romantic gateway. The fragrance unlocks the sturdy citrus scents, with a hint of burned wood odor. It corresponds with the smell of shedding oranges or lemons around a bonfire.

If you’re a fragrance “obsessionist” like I am, you do a ton of digging on the net on what fragrances are the highest and best reviewed. Terre d’Hermes, is one of those that continue to show up in almost every top list perfume enthusiasts recommend.
Jean-Claude Ellena created this famous fragrance whom has an amazing reputation for creating perfumes that dominate.
Thoughts on d’Hermes from a Self-Proclaimed Cologne Lover
Top notes: Grapefruit, Orange
Middle notes: Gunflint, Pepper, Pink Peppercorn, Geranium Leavbes, Patchouli, Baies Rose
Base notes: Atlas Cedarwood, Vetiver, Gum benzoin
Fragrantica rating – 4.25/5 – Very good
Basenotes – 65% positive rating
Just look at those numbers that hundreds of perfumes, amateurs, and average joe’s have rated it. If these ratings don’t give you confidence that Terre d’Hermes is a quality fragrance, I don’t know what will.
When I take a whiff of Terre d’Hermes, I understand what people say when the “haters” compare it to “bug spray”. This initial smell only lasts for about 30 seconds so it is not an issue for anyone that is considering wearing it.
After the initial opening, it takes on the light, citrus scent that is extremely popular among top selling fragrances. Most people get grapefruit and orange notes, and that is something I agree with. I do enjoy how they blend together and create a unique citrus scent that smells sophisticated and different from other similar scents.
What makes Terre d’Hermes special is how it’s a perfect fragrance for anyone that wants to smell important, classy, elegant, sophisticated, or like a boss. This is awesome for a fragrance to give out these types of vibes. It makes it perfect to wear to work without any issues, doing manly stuff around the house, or maybe you’re going to have a few guests over for dinner, this would be a perfect scent for entertaining.
The only problem I had with Terre d’Hermes is the longevity. Because it’s an EDT, my expectation was about 4 hours of longevity. I was greatly surprised that after only 2-3 hours, I could no longer smell it on myself. Looking at other reports, people tell all kinds of stories of how long it lasts and that it has great longevity. I, however, do not get that vibe. With this flaw, it prevents me from adding Terre d’Hermes EDT a spot with the other elite fragrances.
What Fragrances does this remind me of?
Because of it’s unique citrus blend, it does not remind me of any other fragrance as of this moment. I’ll get back to you on that.
Alright so don’t just take my word, here are what others have to say about this fragrance…
The Ladies,
This lady sums it up how I feel most women react to it. It’s a “like” not a “love” fragrance. One other thing I would like to mention is that I have yet to hear someone describe it as “sexy”.
I like the point this guy makes about it being safe for the office…
This has to be one of the best daytime / office scents I have come across thus far. Such a beautiful blend of those delightful citrus notes, orange peel and grapefruit, mixed with the woody and earthy accords which i presume largely come from the vetiver. I get a bit of black pepper, however compared to some of the fragrances that I usually wear (which are a lot more spice / pepper orientated) this seems a lot more subdued. This is refreshing, rejuvenating and revitalising, and it manages to simultaneously be something that is unoffensive and popular, and yet also an incredibly unique and classy scent.
Thankyou Jean-Claude Ellena, and i’m sorry for not getting onto this one sooner!”
Who Should Buy Terre d’Hermes?
Age Group: 40+
Terre d’Hermes is much too sophisticated for the youth of the world to wear it casually. I recommend it for guys that are a little more mature.
Season: All-Seasons
It’s one of the few fragrances that you can pull off any time of the year.
Time of Day: All-Day
A versatile fragrance indeed. Wear this bad boy all day every day if you prefer.
Gift?: Yes
If you’re looking for something to buy your dad or husband, this could be a great gift. This fragrance is well-liked by many people so odds are, you and who you’re buying it for, will enjoy it.
Longevity: Below Average
I like my EDT lasting for at least 4 hours before it starts to wear off. However, I have been getting only 2-3 hours of life out of it which is not cool to me.
Harmless? – Yes
The only part you have to worry about is the first 30 seconds. Yes it smells like bug spray, but it immediately goes away.
Popularity – Popular
With a search volume of about 6,600/ month, Terre d’Hermes is a popular fragrance.
Price – Pricy
For just a 1.7 ounce bottle, you might have to pay over $50 for it. For a normal size bottle, you’ll be around $75.
Awards – 0
CologneMasters have not given it any awards… yet
Sexy – Not
A word that I have never heard someone describe Terre d’Hermes is sexy.
Signature Cologne – Yes
Absolutely feel free to wear this as a signature scent. If you are looking for something on the lighter side that enhances your sophistication, feel free to give this one a shot!
